Travel
Getting to Tilburg University is straightforward, whether you arrive by car, train, bus, or bike.
If you are coming by car, parking is available on campus.
If you are coming by train, the most convenient stop is Tilburg Universiteit, right next to the campus. This stop can be reached directly with the NS Sprinter trains from, for example, Breda, s’Hertogenbosch, and Tilburg Centraal.
Bus lines 2, 3, and 4 will get you to the campus, too.
Tickets for busses and trains are available via the Dutch railway website NS.nl or by simply checking in and out by tapping your credit/debit card at the terminals (at the station/in the busses).
If you are coming by plane, the closest airports are Amsterdam Schiphol, Brussels Airport, and Eindhoven Airport. From each of them, Tilburg is easy to reach by train.
Accommodation
There are several good places to stay, depending on whether you would rather be close to campus, in the city centre, or just outside Tilburg.
Auberge du Bonheur is a lovely choice if you want to stay close to the university in a quieter, greener setting. It is just outside the campus area and feels a bit more relaxed than a city hotel.
Onderwijshotel De Rooi Pannen is a nice local option with a more personal feel in a historic former monastery building. It is a teaching hotel so you will be welcomed by staff-in-training.
Breda is a lovely city close by with some additional options for acomodation and it is well-connected to the campus via train. IntercityHotel Breda is an easy option right by Breda Central Station.
If you are arriving by car and do not mind staying a little outside the centre, Van der Valk Tilburg and Klooster Nieuwkerk Goirle are both worth considering.
What to do in Tilburg
Tilburg is not a city of big tourist landmarks, but it is a very easy place to enjoy for a day or two. It has a good mix of contemporary art, industrial heritage, and a lively centre with plenty of places to eat and have a drink.
De Pont is probably Tilburg’s best-known museum and well worth a visit if you enjoy contemporary art. It is set in a former wool mill, which gives the whole place a distinctive atmosphere.
The TextielMuseum is another highlight and a great fit for Tilburg. It connects the city’s textile history with design, fashion, and art in a way that feels very current.
If you are in the mood for music, theatre, or a performance in the evening, Schouwburg Concertzaal Tilburg is the city’s main venue.
A slightly newer addition is MOYA, the Museum of Young Art, which focuses on emerging and younger artists.
For food, Foodmarket Tilburg is an easy and fun option, especially if people want flexibility and different cuisines in one place. Gist is a good pick for drinks or a relaxed dinner. A third nice option is Kok Verhoeven, which is a popular place in town if you are looking for something a bit more special.
